2019 - Cabin Rattling? (merged thread)

New 19’ Premium owner here. Love the car although I’m still getting used to it, coming from an Altima.

Car is a week old. Today I’ve been noticing that going over bumps in the road causes some noticeable rattling on both the driver’s side and the passenger side. I also noticed that the passenger seat seemed to rattle as I went over an especially larger bump. The rattle on the driver’s side seems to be coming from behind me, so the driver’s side rear.

Overall, I love the quiet cabin. It does such a great job of blocking out road noise. But these rattles have been somewhat noticeable. Not loud by any stretch, but loud enough that I’ll notice them when I don’t have any music on.

Any suggestions? Take it back to the dealer to check?

My local dealer has fixed a couple rattles (covered under warranty) on my 2018 Forester, so by all means take it to your dealer's service department.

@ForesterBill The problem is, I can’t determine where they’re specifically coming from. I hear them in a general area of the car, but can’t pinpoint them yet. Perhaps wait to take it in until I can pinpoint it?
Spend some time and figure it out. If it’s interior rattles you should be able to

Noise travels so it can be hard to pinpoint. rear seatbelts or the middle belt . Is it connected or in the ceiling ? Anything in the sunglass holder ? Any thing not secured in the trunk or underneath ? Open sunroof and see if the rattle goes away

I put the middle belt in the ceiling, out of my line of view. There’s nothing in the car right now. I thought sunroof too. I’ll try with it open.
I have had two (2) rattles in my '19 touring..
a. Grip handle on the driver's side was loose. Dealer replaced.
b. Eyesight area would rattle whenever it was hot outside. I took a video recording of the rattle, showed it to the dealer, they ordered a new part.

Whenever it does it, try to get a recording of it. For me, the dealer has been pretty good about addressing concerns so yours should be as well.

One of my rattles was the sun visor extensions.

I have a rattle I also believe is coming from the eyesight panel. Do you know what part was ordered?
I noticed a new (and very obnoxious) noice in my wife's '19 tonight while driving. It sounds like there is an insect stuck in the driver side rear door. Worse with hitting bumps and with the music and low tones. I'll be spending some time with it tomorrow to hunt it down. I drove it for 20 minutes and I was crawling out of my skin. I need to find it before the next road trip.
same thing for my 19 sport - turned out to be I moved visor and was touching eyesight housing and also rattles if visor not snapped in catch

When I retracted the middle belt into the ceiling it rattled a little. I pulled it out a little and folded the strap over the metal connector and let it retract again. Hasn't rattled since.

Glad I am not the only one complaining about the rattle..mine sounds general too. Maybe from the front of the dash board. Definitely not seat belt. Eyesight if I touch it, it wiggles too. When i wash it, I also notice the trim on the lower windshield is loose too. But that is outside, dont know how much it contribute to rattle .

Had the problem with my '15 Forester. Traced it to the plastic covers over the visor mirrors. Just folded paper towels between the mirror and cover. Took a while to run down because the rattle telegraphed all over.

Tap your brake pedal from side to side with your hand, if you here the same rattle when you do this, I can explain and help you find it. It took me months to figure out but it was a harness way up high above the pedal and under the dash that was causing horrible noise, I finally located it and it has stopped ... the brake pedal trick is how you will know if it is the same

Mine isn’t a horrible noise. It’s more a vibrating noise. It honestly isn’t that perceptible/loud, but I’m super sensitive to sounds so it’s very noticeable to me.

I feel like I’ve pinpointed it to either the driver’s side door or either the driver’s side passenger door. Something around there is causing the vibrating.

It was the plastic cover for the Eye Sight. Dealer replaced it, it still has a little rattle when it’s hot but it’s far quieter and not nearly as often as before.

I’d make them replace/fix it until it’s right. I can’t do rattles. Had a couple in my 18, but was able to fix them both
I finally found my rattle. It was in the headliner above the driver rear door. A little tap and it went away. A specific cause is unknown. Presumably just the headliner running against the door trim.
