Hello all,

I am wondering if anyone knows what it would take to swap a 2018 Forester XT motor into a 2016 Forester that is equipped with the oem 6-speed manual transmission.

The 2016 had it's short block changed at 50k miles. Now 25k miles later it is burning oil again and it seems like its worse than the first time. It was like pulling teeth to get the first motor changed and I simply do not want to go deal with that again.

I have an opportunity to obtain a low mileage DIT motor from a 2018 and would like to know if there is anyone that has any knowledge on the topic.

I would love to know more about this question myself! Similar problem. I love my Forester. I do not love it's engine. 2nd short block and it's burning oil again after 100 000kms. Although far better than my first it is still disappointing on a religiously serviced vehicle . It would be incredible if Subaru could go back to the old tight tolerances of the ej rather than chase ridiculous mpg at the expense of engine longevity. Are the turbo Fa20s any better? I imagine they would have similar problems with oil consumption as well? Most people suggest trading the car in and just buying the turbo.

Contact a tuner shop near you. I know you will need the XT's ECM (computer), but not sure if you need the full harness or other relays, etc.. The tuner shop will know, and should also know if there are any dimensional differences between your 6sp and the one used in the WRX's (behind the 2.0DIT).

I'm leaning towards trading it in for something else at this time. I love the car, just not the oil consumption issue and the dealers are not making it any easier either. Should of kept my 01 Forester S Premium!

I will give that a try and see what they say. Will update once I get any more information.

Thanks for the replies!
