Update. Failed the oil consumption test at 15,000. New short block coming.
I have a 2017 2.5i manual as well, bought it at 25k and failed oil consumption test at 32k. Replaced short block and feels significantly more powerful than old engine even with proper services. Both engines sounded as you described, I may believe its normal. Sitting around 42k (10k into new engine with my own services) and still consumes oil despite installing a Crawford AOS Baja, however engine still feels amazing and gets about 32mpg with 215/75/15 all terrains.
