Sorry if this is a repost, I didn't see the original in the threadlist.

I just (11/29/18) bought a base level 2017 2.5 Forester with 30,000 miles. It's about a year and a half old and was a lease car. I took it to the dealer to have a dead factory battery replaced under warranty and when I picked it up the service 'consultant' said they'd had to "upgrade the software." He was vague on what the upgrade was supposed to do.
I can't swear to this since I'd only driven the car a few miles when the battery failed, but I hadn't noticed the fake shifts before the upgrade. Does anyone know of a TSB or anything about a firmware revision on 2017s? Didn't Subaru start the fake shifting on the 2.5's in 2017?

TIA

Scot C: look for the following thread: Subaru Forester Owners Forum > Technical Forums and Vehicle Assistance > Transmission and Driveline > ('14-'18) TSB 11-175-17 for CVT re-program comes out today 6/30/17.

There was a shudder and or jerkiness felt at low speeds (and when the engine was cold) with 2017 Foresters with CVT's. The programmed shift points are part of the CVT programming on all 2017 Forester CVT's, so the TSB did not address that, as it is the way Subaru delivers them now. The TSB 11-175-17 was a CVT program update to the computer to address the drive-ability issues that many of us with the 2017 model were experiencing. After the re-programming, I know mine was much smoother, and I have not had problems since having it done more than a year ago.

Good luck with your Forester!

Floridarog - Thanks

Sorry about posting in the wrong forum. Newbie mistake.

Thanks for the quick reply. It's a relief to know the upgrade actually made things better.
