I am somewhat ignorant about vehicles, so bear with me. I have a 2015 Forester that I am the original owner. My husband replaced my cabin filter the day before it went into the body shop for a fender bender. I received the vehicle back and noticed that at certain speeds (over 30 mph), I hear noise from the passenger area where the cabin filter is. Obviously the fan has to be off for me to notice it. It is a somewhat continuous sound and sounds like wind rustling rather quickly. Not wind like an open window.
I took the vehicle into an independent shop for an oil change and state inspection today. Told them about the noise and asked them to make sure the cabin filter was in correctly, which they checked and said it was. Husband had some initial trouble with it and said it was quite dirty. I should have asked the shop to check for debris, but didn’t.
Like I mentionedIt is making noise (kinda like wind rustling) but it is only noticeable over say, 30mph. And you need to have the fan off to hear it.
The vehicle looks fine from the body shop and when I got the oil change and they looked at the cabin filter, that shop didn’t mention any glaring problems.
Is it possible that when the husband changed the cabin filter, something got into where it shouldn’t?
Not sure what to do or where to take it. Have hubby check (I tried and couldn’t get at the cabin filter and didn’t want to break the glove box) to see if something is there? Take it to the dealer and have them look? (The dealer and body shop have same owner.) Take it back to independent shop? I don’t know that is could be anything with the body shop and really want to avoid going there unless I am absolutely sure it was them. Took them a couple months to get vehicle in after accident. I would rather avoid them unless I can for sure blame them. And honestly, I am not looking to blame anyone anyway. I just want it fixed…
