I have a 2014 forester and if i have my cellphone plugged into a car charger and place it on my passenger seat the warning to the left of the display blinks a chime comes on. Has anyone else had this problem?
If I push on the seating surface lightly with my hand with just a few lbs of pressure mine comes on too. It thinks someone is sitting there and wants them to buckle up... lolI have a 2014 forester and if i have my cellphone plugged into a car charger and place it on my passenger seat the warning to the left of the display blinks a chime comes on. Agree. I keep my work bag containing an iPad or laptop and other stuff on the passenger seat daily and it never sets off the alarm. That's not right, IMO. There's supposed to be a minimum weight before the airbags get armed. At least there has been in other cars I've had.
Cell phones are constantly radiating a signal to keep a link with the nearest cell tower. RF interference to the sensor in the seat is a possibility. Turn the phone off and then lay it in the seat. I'm betting the problem goes away.Wow! This same thing happened to me in my 2014 today. Cell phone sitting in the passenger seat and the passenger seat belt warning light going on. It stopped after I moved the cell phone to the cup holder.
I just checked mine; same result ... but I didn't try a watermelon, used a gallon of anti-freeze.My phone in the passenger seat has no effect... I do not think it is due to a cell signal.
I did put a watermelon in my passenger seat and I had to buckle the belt. :icon_biggrin:
Thanks. Yes, I think too.Thread on this topic here: http://www.subaruforester.org/vbulletin/f88/passenger-side-airbag-warning-254466/
I think it is something to do with the signals some phones send out? Hard to say for sure.
Mine does not do it.

Samsung Galaxy S3. No airbag light when on seat/charging.What kind of phones you guys have?
OK, new forester likes to talk with iPhone :woohoo:Samsung Galaxy S3. No airbag light when on seat/charging.
This g-d dumb car had the passenger seat belt warning go off 2 weeks ago with a blackberry, granola bar and a banana on the passenger seat. That's not right, IMO. There's supposed to be a minimum weight before the airbags get armed. At least there has been in other cars I've had.
