2014 - clunk/knock while turning left?

4016 Views 3 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  Omelnik
Hi everyone, new to the site. My Forester has developed a clunk or knock type sound when turning. More so turning left. The sound is evenly spaced, maybe half a second which makes me think drive shaft cv joint, but mechanic said the drive shafts feel firm and boots are good. Done 140000 kms.
Any thoughts what is causing this.

@Gradybunch Welcome - your 1st post.

When CV joints have gone out on front axles, mine have sounded off a loud click - click noise (could be clunk - clunk) when turning at parking lot speeds. Continues to get worse as miles increase, but the CV's are strong parts and last big miles as they announce their impending demise. I had a Nissan that went >10K miles with failing CV joints before I became so embarassed by the noise that I finally fixed it; and just couple months later it was rear-ended, BTW.

Resolving noise issues on forum are best coupled with a sound video clip if you can do that...

@UhOh, yeah it doesn’t sound like the clicking cv joints I replaced on a old Toyota Camry.
I will see if I can get a good recording of the sound. It is more prominate at about 30-40km turning at an intersections.

Curious if you ever figured out what the problem was?
