First Batch of 2014 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel Trucks Ordered Within 3 Days

Pre-orders for the 2014 Ram 1500 diesel pickup truck was sold out. Read somewhere performance; acceleration 0-60 about 7-8 secs, 28 to 30 mpg/700 miles per full tank, suggested retail for the 2014 base model Ram 1500 diesel about 28,000 dollars.

Can Subaru do it as well? If they bring/adopt their diesel boxer engine for US application, then they could bring-in more/additional customers including me.

No, because there is obviously no market for such a thing. At least that's what Subaru NA told me when I asked about it. I'd be there on day one to buy one for sure if I could get it with a manual.
It's probably because they can't sell it here in the US for a reasonable price.

The 28,000 suggested retail price for the basic model 2014 Ram 1500 diesel seems reasonable to me. But in the 2014 Jeep Grand cherokee diesel iteration the suggested retail price goes up to 50,000+, so I would not even consider buying one at that price.

I'm not even sure if anybody can get a 28,000 VW diesel or MB diesel CUV here in the US.

Apparently the Jeep Renegade is coming to the US with a 9 speed auto and a diesel option.

Subaru could sell them successfully if they tried. Ultimately the question is, does the boxer diesel currently sold globally meet US emissions standards. Probably not.
I think there is a small Niche market for it, diesel fanatics like meself and a few others on this forum alone. HOWEVER, I think, as a whole, American's see diesel as something only tractor trailer, tractors, and heavy duty 3/4 and full ton pick ups run on, and would probably mess up their engines by putting regular petrol in it! Perhaps, in the near future, but now, not so much! I too would be there on day one to buy a diesel Foz if I could get it in 6 MT
Meeting U.S. emissions requirements is likely to be a major hurdle for Subaru. I don't believe the diesel boxer sold elsewhere has an "aftertreatment" to reduce Nox. Mazda had plans for a Skyactive diesel for the 2014 3 & 6, but they keep delaying the release due to issues with EPA certification. Apparently they thought they could get through without aftertreatment, and are finding out otherwise. I too would love to have a diesel Forester with a stick, but I'm afraid the business case just isn't strong enough. And, sad to say Mazdas tribulations are only making that business case harder to prove.

Some interesting facts about the 2014 Ram 1500 diesel engine and it's transmission. Looks like a solid design that even Gale Banks Banks has been working directly with VM Motori to engineer its own version of the 3.0L, codenamed the Banks 630T, for use in military and other specialty-use applications.
