I own a 2012 Subaru Forester with an FB25 engine. My car overheated and I need to replace the engine. I wasn't able to find a 2012 FB25 engine. However, I found a 2014 FB25 engine. I have asked around and some people say that I can't and others say it is possible but I need to make some tweaks and change a sensor.
Would it be possible to swap my engine with the 2014 one?

First make sure the new engine was intended for the same region and market as the old engine. Next, decide how much of the old engine you need to replace. For example, if the cam and crankshaft pulleys of the old engine are different from the new engine then reused the old cam and crankshaft pulleys. The timing marks on the pulleys of the new engine will be different and won't work on the computer. Good luck!
