I'm going to be doing the Timing Belt service in a couple months - 2009 SOHC. Does anyone cut the old belt off to make it easier to remove the lower idler? One less chance of crossing threads.

I like to mark the positions of the marks on the pulleys on the old belt for reference so don't cut it. It gives me something to compare against.
Instead, I remove the pulley one normally installs last to slack the belt.

NO! I followed the maintenance manual in the removal procedure. The only belt to cut is the accessory belt.
