Found a spring while changing the differential / transmission fluid on a 5 speed 2009 Forester. Unfortunately I did not take a photo of the spring, and I guess I threw it away by accident. However it looks very similar to one of the springs shown in photo below (taken from this outback thread). The spring was not damaged like the reference photo below. It was incredible skinny and about 1.5" long, maybe 1/8" in diameter.
Questions:
1 - It appears to be a spring from one of the axle oil seals - can someone confirm?
2 - If from axle oil seal, how critical is the spring to the seal?
3 - Anyone know if this tutorial would be good to follow to replace the seal?
