Hi,

the clock and information display unit is not working, since I am in the process of changing the HU, is there a way of taking out the clock in an easy way?

@Lebanon model years vary in different countries, especially in a transition year... '08 ► '09. Could you post a picture of your Forester or the clock you want to remove.

Hi Bobby,

the clock is similar to this one.

Thank you.

Okay, you have an '09.

A couple questions:

[1] Is the display completely dead or do parts of the display work?
[2] Do you want to remove that display panel to repair or replace it?

The display is completely dead, I would like to remove it to try to repair it.

cheers
The display is partially functional, or you would have a lit SRS airbag light.

I don't have any experience on the '09 display removal, so perhaps other members will chime in. I have the SH Subaru Technical documents, so I'll see if I can find something there...

The display is completely dead, like a black hole.

I left parts of my hand's skin trying to figure out how to remove it. Isn't this the beauty of DIY jobs on cars?

Thank you

I found this in the Subaru Technical Service documents for the SH, '09-'13. It looks like you need to get behind the clock to release it.

Looking at the clock system wiring... there's a lot of stuff built into that display! :icon_eek:

From the trouble shooting chart:
No display is shown.
1. Power supply
2. Clock body
Before pulling out the display unit, I'd make sure the problem isn't a blown fuse.

Many, many thanks Bobby,

I tried this but the clock didn't bulge. I will give it a try once more.

Yes I did check the fuse, it is the same that feeds the radio that is functioning, unless the user manual is wrong and a dedicated fuse is installed.

I don't have any first hand experience on removing an SH clock, we have SG Foresters. You may have to place a mirror back there to locate the tabs that need to be released.

Check all the power feeds the wiring diagram I posted above shows... just to make sure.

Strange and bizarre thing happened today,

The battery died and had t be replaced, and voilà ! the information screen came to life displaying the clock, temperature and fuel consumption ratio.

I have no explanation to it.
Curious... sounds like the electronics glitched & a power cycle reset it?

Let us know if it goes out again or if it continues to work. I'll add "Updated!" to your thread title for now, perhaps "SOLVED!" later on if the the display continues to work!

Hi,
the central display is still working perfectly well, we can consider the thread as "Solved"
The electronic Gremlins have been been wiped-out by a power recycle reset or by a correct voltage feed.

Thank you
"SOLVED!" added to your thread title.

Hello, i have the same problem, but the display is showing the airbag icon, i guess the issue is not with the display. I can’t see anything else on it and the radio is not working. It feels like the ignition key is rotated properly but i double checked this. What could be the issue?
