I have an 08 Forester. Sometimes the drivers side headlamp won't come on. This affects both the driving light and the headlamp, so it is not a bulb issue. I've tried wiggling/removing and replacing the connectors, but that doesn't work. What does work is to give the headlamp cover a light, and I mean light, tap. Is there a common ground on the headlight assembly? What else would you suggest checking?

Have you checked the connector that connects the headlight assembly to the car harness? Sounds like something is loose, the high and low beam use a switched ground system with a shared 12v wire, so it sounds like the 12v common wire is the issue
