2007 Forester auto tranny just started to slip. Was a tad low, and was wondering if a fluid change is on order at local oil change place or just add some to bring it back to full. Is this a normal thing to happen as while driving and give it gas, it slips and then re-engages.

Mileage? Service history? Don't get it changed at a quickie lube place... the 06+ models require ATF-HP fluid. The chances that they'll just use Dex III is pretty high.

Did you check it hot and engine running?
As mentioned service history is important. I have done at least 12 drain and fills on my 08 with 118K miles.

170,000 miles on it. Fluid has not been changed in a while. Wondering if I should fill it back up and try it or have the fluid changed on it. Wondering if it is something else?

You could try to top it off with ATF-HP to see if that helps. If it's been a long time since it was serviced, you might consider a drain & refill with ATF-HP. I'd recommend against doing a flush with the mileage you have.
