Hello,
I have a 2006 red Forester X (2 l) on which I'm looking to do some work. A paintjob is coming up, but in the future I'd like to swap it to a turbo, maybe add some lowered wrx shocks and do a manual swap (I'm aware it could take a lot of time/money). As far as I've seen here, everyone recommends just buying an XT model straight away, so I was wondering if an X to XT swap was even possible. Has anyone successfully done this?

The swap is certainly possible. But you are better off just buying an XT as you will be dealing with less unknowns. It's already hard enough buying a used XT and not knowing the history of the engine/drivetrain. You're now combining those unknowns with the entire process of getting all the required parts, will it even work properly and hunting down rare parts. The reality is you are essentially now dealing with 14 year old vehicle parts are getting harder to find.
