2006 - What's this for and should I be worried (picture) - advice?

Working on the old fun bus yesterday and I found this thing next to rear o/s wheel;

I've scoured the interwebs but came up with a blank. I thought it may have been connected to the since deleted SLS but it doesn't have one on the near side, and it clearly connects to a sensor or something.

Sensor for rear ride height to automatically adjust headlamp aim. The official parts for this are very expensive, but apparently can be replaced using parts for building models (radio controlled cars?).
