this mod is intended for US vehicles without VDC as all others (AFAIK) allready have this type of differential

edit: looks like 2007+ XTs have this as an option as per http://www.subaruforester.org/vbulletin/f63/usdm-forester-specs-options-prices-all-years-34187/#post435339

this mod will do little for your vehicle unless your making A LOT of power

as you can see the diagram has the first half of the part numbers (for the most part)..I have a wad of papers that finished them by Year Motor etc

Edit by admin: parts list and diagram attached and downloadable below.

if you copy and paste the part numbers into one of the OEM parts sites you can get a total cost..(note the quantities on some of them)...and they will put them in a box and ship them to you..then you (or your favorite transmission shop :icon_wink:) must assemble and install, however, this project will require the use of a shop press and some specialty tools (or their home made equivalent :icon_idea: )

This article explains this diff well: see downloadable 4eat.pdf attachment below

once this is assembeled installing it to the transmission is fairly straight forward...if you have never opened an automatic transmission this may not be a job for you :evilatyou:

here they are side by side left MPT right VTD

hopefully I will be at the track Wednesday and I'll see how much the 60' improves

and now I see why

Did I just smoke crack or does that say a 1.657 sec 60 foot time and 3.323 second 0-60? Is this for real? With an auto box?

wel I'm NOT hanging out in the bathroom with ya ....today

but yea for real..check 1/4 mile registry
That 0-60 time is absolutely insane. Where did you get your torque converter from and what is the stall speed? Just out of curiosity, what will your car do for 0-60 from a roll?

IPT, stall is torque dependant...0-60 from a roll

I'm going to have to do this someday, the 4eat should have always been VTD. BTW those are incredible times, I've been waiting for someone to show what an auto forester could do!
do you have a slip from the track, or just the Gtech? Very nice numbers I so need to get my TC and valve body done... and maybe this swap while it's out. By the way when you had this all apart did you do all new clutches as well?

no just the fix and the VTD
that's good to hear that the stock clutches are holding up. I'm guessing you had the VB done early on before power got to high? I'm a little worried about mine as after the dyno session I could smell them a bit. I really need to send in my VB, I just can't seem to find the time to be without the car for a week.
I have a question couldn't you just take a WRX 4EAT and swap it in and have the same thing?

sorta ..the wrx 4EAT is not the 'direct control' system like the forester AFAIK

I looked into buying a used one for the parts but that was as much $$$$ if not more than buying the parts for the conversion new

I don't think your smelling clutches from inside your 4EAT it doesn't work like that...check your fluid if it's burnt looking/smelling then you've got problems

most likely you were smelling something else
This mod is on my to-do list. My car is tuned for some pretty aggressive acceleration, and with the STI steering rack thrown in the mad torque steer gets tiresome, especially on rougher roads (of which we have many). I've actually scared myself a few times while getting used to wrestling with the steering wheel.

Excellent work on putting the parts list together! Good thing my husband works in the parts dept. at the local Subaru dealer...

I've also backed up the parts list and .pdf file by attaching them to the initial post, in case the links go down.
Plead Can you get a full parts list with the part numbers together for this. I couldn't figure out the matrix that Andy posted to figure out his numbers. Since you have the mad hook ups to the parts guy I would guess you could post a clear and easy to follow list. No offence Andy..

Edit: never mind I just noticed there is now a parts list that I hadn't seen previously. Sorry.

I've been pondering what to say about this post for some time trying to figure out what you weren't seeing

What I AM seeing is an opportunity to take all the part numbers, put together a wholesale package price for interested parties, and fill the needs. I'll be all over it Monday morning after I get finished with my Monday morning chore list and a few other things at work.

By Monday evening, I'll have a package price worked out and then it'll simply be shipping quotes to interested parties.
^^ Thanks, honey!
very nice Roo.

Andy... I was thinking that when you made the original post that you had said that we could find part numbers by looking at the diagram and substituting some letter with another letter or something like that. I might just be crazy, either way I hadn't noticed the link with the list until now.
