Ok so this is what I have and what I want to do and I want to clarify something...I have an 04 Fxt with a 05 Baja XT tcu and shifter with sport shift. Stock 04 fxt 4eat. Sport shift works but have fwd light flashing. I am going to swap in a VTD diff. Will this fix the FWD light and restore AWD operation? I think the issue is the reluctor wheel is different between the mpt and vtd throwing the light.

OK, received my TCU from a baja the other day and will be receiving my 05 92x 4eat in the next week or so (full transmission in working condition for $300). Still trying to track down the shifter as I really want sport shift.

One question I did have, was can someone point out where they bought the pins repin their TCU and shifter harness for sport shift? I don't recall seeing that mentioned here, but is a big thread so perhaps I missed it. Any help would be much appreciated.

Interesting...

Will the VTD fit directly in place of the original multi-plate active clutch pack system in the 4EAT?

Yes it does! Took me 10 hours (well spent easy going) to swap it out. Really happy with the result... torque steer and blowing the front tires away before shifting power to the rear is fixed (making 340 AWHP) !!

I am running it with the "FWD" fuse installed.. this is the way most run it to avoid trouble codes due to speed diffie between front and rear. I have a TCU from an 04 Baja on the way.. this will fix that issue and restore the clutch pack lock up 50/50 split.

Great information here... I just swapped out the MPT for a VTD... Baja TCU is in route.. currently running with FWD fuse in... Thanks for the detailed info....

I got to test mine out in a foot of snow and it was a night and day difference between this and the not. The TCU and manual shift if you choose to do that make the 4eat a great automatic IMHO. So sad they gimped it so much from the factory.

I was the one off Nasioc you got the TCU from, should be arriving tomorrow. I ran the "fwd" fuse for years without any issues. Never got around to just putting in the TCU.

Hey guys I wanted to share that that the only verified TCU is 31711aj300/301. This was what I used with my 2005 and worked without issue. Should be no reason for needing the fwd fuse once the correct tcu is in place. The only real reason the tcu is needed (on the 05 at least) is for the sport shift mode and correcting the rear speed sensor rate.

Please refer back here.

Ha.. I ordered the wrong TCU from you.. my mistake! The TCU I got from you was 31711AJ000, The TCU others have been able to use plug and play is 31711AJ300. upon install (of the ...AJ000) I received two codes: P0700 & P1714.

This weekend I worked to compare pin out's between the TCU I got from you (31711AJ000) and the one other has been able to use plug and play (31711AJ300). I checked the I/O between the two units and found 4 differences... The rear speed sensor pins are swapped and it does not have any pins for the CAN communication signals (+/-).

I swapped the rear speed sensor wires and then got flashing AFT temp light... and could see in the RomRaider datalog the rear sensor was not working.. so it seem the service manual is wrong indicating the wires were swapped.

I swapped the rear sensor wires back, disabled the P0700 trouble code (this code tells ECU to issue CEL if TCU is not happy) then confirmed each data logging parameter offered in RomRaider TCU logging was working... then went for a drive... works perfectly.

Thanks for this thread.

I have a 04FXT 4EAT, I bought a donor 4EAT from a 04 WRX, it has the same 4:44 ratio and I thought about using it. But the tail shaft swap is a much easier job, so I did that instead. I also installed a 05 Baja Sport Shifter and TCU. So far it works, except for the Sport shift which has another pigtail. I didn't see anything to plug it into are you guys building a harness to use it ?

I just used the pin that is referenced in this thread, insulated it and tied it in. Functioned just fine when I sold the car.

Hi everyone, i've got 2003 XT forester AT. Im gonna swap Mpt to Vtd. I wonder if i put WRX or Baja's Tcu ,will i lose power and hold button capability?

As far as i know there is no power & hold button on AUTO Wrx and Baja USDM verison.

My trans has std 4eat power&hold button but without sportshift.
