Recently rebuild ej253. Rebuilt fuel injectors installed. Cylinder 3 injector leaked. Replaced under warranty. Found the o-ring was mangled.

Replacement went in and did not appear to leak. Do not recall if I looked at it running or just with the power applied. The old one leaked with just power on (ignition key in run position).

After a sorting out some rough running problems (ignition) and doing some test runs, began to notice gas smell. Did not notice any leaks after a quick look. This morning smelled it again and took a closer look and could see injector 3 was leaking.

It appears to be leaking the same place as the other one, implying the oring is mangled again. But why? Am I likely to be damaging them when installing?

New engine in 06 Forester 5 speed. FED emissions.

When the OBD checks complete get an immediate P0420. Reset, a few miles, comes ready, P0420. Less than 50 miles total at this point.

It appears to be the original CAT, Federal Emissions. The old engine was eating oil and pretty the exhaust flanges looking into the CAT were well coated with soot and probably burned oil, so I am guessing the CAT is done.

That said looking at Rock Auto, I am stunned by the price of CAT's now, seeing the FED and CARB versions are not that different in price now.

So, what brand should I get? Should I go for the CARB version? Should I expect longer life from it? Are the DENSO sensors still the way to go?

I posted this elsewhere earlier. Since then found out a few things. NY as of Jan 1, 2023 requires ALL new CATS to be CARB certified, OR, Whatever the Dealer sells. So, that part is settled. Probably going with AP/Eastern from Rock Auto and DENSO's from Amazon as they are a bit cheaper there. At this point, the expenses are making me hyper ventilate.

So, given the original miles appear to be 184,000 I think the CAT is a write off, as well as at least the front sensor. And add that new stuff should be all smiley time. Yes?
