2006 - Adjusting Valve lash with motor in the bay?

I recently got a set of Delta cams. I set the valve lash to .008 and .013. Well it sounds awful. Called Delta and they said it should be .006 and .008 and the motor is back in the car. Anyone ever adjust the valves in the engine bay?

Edit Sorry EJ253 SOHC with AVLS

Yes it can be done. Wont say its as fun as the engine out of the car though.
One thought, to make this job so much easier, would be to pull things out so that you have the intake manifold and associated bits out of the way. Although it's a pain, you'll have decent workroom and it's only half the job of pulling the engine back out.

not to wake up an old thread, but how do you like the cams? Thinking of getting them.
