I’ll be towing a 1500lb pop up camper with my 2006 Subaru Forster (w trailer brakes). Uhaul installed a hitch rated at 3500lbs with a 1 1/4 hitch receiver. They then installed a 1 1/4 to 2” adaptor and a 2” shank with 2” ball mount.
Will this work or did the adaptor just hurt the tow capacity? Wondering why they didn’t just install a 1 1/4 shank with 2” ball straight into the hitch?

I told them I wanted to tow a pop up camper with a 2 inch ball receiver so trusted they provided the correct setup but am now2nd guessing, any thoughts? I’m a first timer.

Why do you even need the 1 1/4 to 2" adapter shank? That piece more than likely lowered your towing capacity. I have towed trailers with 2" balls and with my 2001 Forester that also has a 1 1/4" receiver as well. Never needed a receiver adapter. If anything you just need to screw on a 2" ball onto the ball mount.
