Hello

I have some sort of whining noise coming from the front when I drive in 4th or in 5th gear at around 50 - 60 mph. It is only noticable when I accelerate. My 2005 2.5 XT forester has around 80000 miles, it has a manual gear box.

Does anyone know what the problem is?

Hi

Anymore details? On throttle, off throttle? Turning left, turning right, straight? Does it get louder if you do a right/left lane change? Does it only do it while clutch is engaged/disengaged?

Video would help too!

Sincerely - a fellow foz owner with an undiagnosed front end whine :(

It happens when I am on throttle. I think it's the same wether I am turning or not. The clutch would be disengaged. I may go to my mechanic if it doesn't stop. I took the car for a drive yesterday and the noise wasn't so loud. It might be due to the weather...

Does it seem to change pitch when you accelerate more? Does it seem to be synched with RPMs? Could it be your turbo?

Yes the pitch changes. And yes, I am suspecting the turbo... I am taking the car to subaru mechanic next week. I called him yesterday to talk about the problem, he believes it's the turbo.

I will keep you informed!
