HI, just recently purchased a 2005 Forester for my son. We have looked high and low and have been unable to find the ATF dipstick. I swear there isn't one although the manual clearly shows one and it's location.
What am I missing here?

@Plovell it's there, just down low, deeper than one would expect it to be! Take a look at the picture below, taken when we were prepping the engine compartment for the AVO turbo kit installation.

What bobby said. On mine it had not come out in ages when i got the car, was hard to get out given the minimal clearance. Wrapping a nice big zip tie around the handle made life alot easier then and ever since when checking/filling the atf.

Thanks for everyone's help. After four thorough searches I finally found it. You have to look at the engine bay from a front angle, rather than top down to see it. Vehicle is 14 years old and this must have been its first change. Fluid looked and smelled like tar. After just one drain and fill the change in shifting is just amazing. Will do a second one in a few weeks.
