I found an undamaged 2004 WRX rack for a fair price on craigslist. Can anybody confirm it will bolt directly onto my 2004 FXT? Can you also confirm that the Whiteline steering rack bushings I need are the 202 part number, and that those are the same as the ones for the 2004 FXT?

It'll bolt right in, and as long as you use your FXT mounting brackets, it will use the FXT bushings.
The one thing I am not sure about it if it is actually an upgrade for your FXT. I am 99% that ratios are the same on both racks.

Sweet, thanks. Can anybody confirm if the 2004 WRX steering rack is the same ratio as the FXT?

From the "How to turn better than an STI for cheap" thread:
The specs:

04 STI 15.2:1 and 2.7 turns lock to lock.
02-04 WRX 16.5:1 and 3 turns lock to lock.
Forester 19.1:1 in the center to 15.2:1 near the ends and 3 turns lock to lock

Costs about $300 used and $550 new for the STI rack. I’ve seen WRX racks sell for $25. No joke. Now that is a big bang for the buck.

I had an '02 WRX prior to this car, and I know the steering in it was much quicker than the center of the FXT rack. Plus the effort and feel were much better. I'm wondering now though if that changed for 2004.

A word of caution: There may have been a change to the steering rack mounting style mid-model year for 2004. All the information I can find says the 2004 WRX rack is the same as the FXT one, but the one I went to buy looks like a 2005+ WRX rack. Either some 2004 cars got the newer style rack, or the guy selling it was confused on the model year. Either way, shop with care.
