I've been testing different OBD-II monitors on my 04. I am confident that the one I have now will work, but I cannot test it as the wire comes off the side and there is a little plastic piece preventing from fitting into the port. So, I need to remove the OBD-II port housing and need to find out how to get it out.

On a WRX thread I see that there are clips I need to pinch and push, but I can't seem to get this thing to budge. Has anyone removed the OBD-II port and/or housing and how did you do it?

Hey — I’ve done this on mine. It is a royal pain to get it out, but I think you have the right idea. There are little platic clips you have to push in while you try to slide it out of the plastic under-dash cladding — it takes quite a bit of elbow grease to get it out the first time. Subsequent removals are less difficult but still require a fair bit of effort. A second set of hands so that one person can push on it while the other squeezes the little tabs would make it a lot easier.
