I have Subaru Forester 2004, Recently, had a problem with Subaru while driving engine shut down and after a couple of minutes I turn on the engine again. It is usually happening on cold and wet days. Check for the scan for the codes. The mechanic said that I have to change the 02 Bank 1 Sensor 1 but price and labor plus scan altogether is $ 1000.00 Canadian. Is it fare price for the sensor?

That's a bit high in my opinion.

The sensor is about a 10 minute job to change, if all goes well.

It could be done faster, but I'm being generous.

Depending if the car need to be on the lift, or if it can be done by reaching down from the top like the 2010 Impreza.

But to me, $500 would be a more fair price if using a Subaru sensor.

All it takes is a simple reset to clear the code, or disconnect the battery.

Are you sure its the O2 sensor? An O2 sensor isn't even operating during a cold start. It's called open loop. Find out what OBD codes are registered.

It's happening on cold and wet days, cold start wasn't mentioned.

It could be just the o2 connector causing issues. It shouldn't stall the engine though, unless it is shorting to ground either in the wiring or internally in the o2.

It almost sounds like a intermittent crank sensor issue, but that wouldn't be weather dependent, unless it is that connector.
