Background: N/A 2001 Forester S, Custom 2.25 inch magnaflow catback, stock headers, stock 1.75 inch(?) dual cat pipe (gutted).

My goal is to acheive a nice tone, but also be decently (noticably) loud. Which would be louder?

A: My stock gutted dual cat pipe

OR

B: My stromung Single highflow cat pipe

Thanks for opinions/experiences/info.
Also, im not worried about flow neccesarily because I wont get much power out of N/A anyways.

Interesting write ups! I also read the section talking about the resonator install. So in my case, I could possibly run a resonator instead of the single high flow cat? My punched out dual cat is plenty loud but a little raspy.

another question, does a completely hollow cat function in any way similar to a resonator? thank you for the response.

A resonator has tuned baffles to prevent droning.

I'm assuming you don't have to pass emission testing. Running CATless may sound good, but the engine is designed to have some back pressure, so running open will sound raspy + you could loose some engine performance.
