I have a 2001 Forester that is ticking from drivers side of engine. I thought it could be heat shield which causes a buzz not a tick. The exhaust manifold gasket is good.. Could it be fuel injectors ticking? Is this a normal sound? It almost sounds like a diesel.. I also have a pinging while accelerating.. I am using 5w30 Mobil 1..Maybe thicker oil is needed or an additive.. It has 124000 miles and is a 5 speed.. Any comments appreciated.. Thanks in advance

Ticking does not go away when warm. I had a 2004 forester that had internal knocking sound that went away when warmed up.
