I was curious if anyone has come across an issue where the cruise works flawlessly when the headlights are off, but if they turn on then the cruise disengages and won't let you reset unless the lights are off. Is this normal and or can this be fixed. any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like a short between headlights and brake light. Cruise detects brake lights on and shuts off cruise.

I know on my 2001, if brake lights do not work, then cruise also does not work. Not sure if you mean "common" the cruise fails or "common" the lighting circuit is shorting out somewhere.

Brake circuit is part of cruise cancel circuit.

I guess you answered my question. I will get a plan of attack for the brake light system for sure, thank you. im sure ill need some help if I find something. Subarus are a new beast for me but I should be able to work it out.
