This motor with 170k seems to be leaking in every gasket/seam. We're using 5W30 for the winter. Is this too light an oil?

I'm not dropping the motor and changing every seal and gasket. Is there a sealing product that can be used to reduce this environmental disaster?

The car has 220k and is still in decent shape.

Thanks

Its the nature of subarus but after this mileage..any vehicle will leak. Have head gaskets been replaced? I am guessing 'yes'

I don't think going to a lighter oil will help much and I an reluctant to use leak stoppers. Maybe others have success with them.

You could try Valvoline MaxLife. Its a high mileage oil with conditioners in it. My leaky honda quit leaking after switching to it.

probably a quart a week. I'll try that Valvoline stuff. Thanks. The head gaskets have not been replaced.
You are way on borrowed time..start saving up. Make sure you are using the Subaru conditioner.
