Not a super mechanically inclined person, but i bought this 5 speed 98 forester L in VA and it’s leaking and all over the place! PLEASE HELP! The valve cover gasket was just changed, but the undercarriage is covered in fresh oil and cv axel grease since the driver side inner and outer boots are leaking or torn completely. Aside from possible the head gasket i don’t know what else the problem could be. I love this car and want to save it but can’t afford the head gasket since I just bought it. /: Please help!

Did you have a trusted mechanic check out this vehicle before you bought it? Take it back to whomever sold it to you and demand all your $ back; be ready to go to a lawyer. Clearly there were preexisting problem(s) that the seller knew about and patched up (poorly). Otherwise, this is going to cost you a lot more $ to try and fix, and you don't even know the extent of the problems.

Welcome to the forum

Were you sold this car with those problems made known to you?

You need to figure out if you want to keep the car or return it for a refund..........

If you want to keep it, we can begin to suggest where to begin.
Do not let the engine oil level get low. If it gets low and the engine shuts off, the engine is then shot and you need another one. The engine warning light is oil pressure, not oil level.

And I certainly do not want to be the bearer of bad news. But...if the Head gaskets have done they will need to be. When the timing belt is changed it requires 4 idlers a tensioner amd a waterpump. So sadly in the future if these items have not been done the cost is about $3000. You need tyo find a subaru specialist. Where are you located?
