While cleaning the Forester up after playing on some forest roads that had light mud in places I found that the bottom part of the exterior door trim holds a metric you-know-what ton of mud, pebbles, and pine needles. I just gently pulled the bottom of the trim out and sprayed away for quite a while to get it all out. It was packed in pretty good and I used my fingers to work it loose. I was surprised/impressed with how much it held. If I even need to hide some mud from the police, I know where I am going to hide it! I think the piece can just snap off, but I did not try it. If you live in a road salt area, I would pay extra attention to that location when washing.

Do you have mud flaps behind the front tires?

I’d be curious if you felt up under the door trim if there was dirt in between the door and the trim. The opening is about 1/4 inch or so.
