I know that a few members have 17x8s with 245/45 rubber that just clears the strut. What difference would there be in an 18x8 wheel with 245/4x rubber as far as clearance is concerned? Would it have more clearance due to the strut's receding angle in relation to the wheel as it moves up, coupled with the larger internal diameter of the wheel vs. a 17"? Or would clearance be about the same regardless of wheel size, as the relative width of the tire remains the same and the outer diameter is similar? Just something I have been wanting to clear up. Does anybody know? Thanks in advance.

On my first Subie Forester, a MY99 S Turbo I had 1000Miglia Evo 5's, 18x8's (standard offset, ET48) running Dunlop SP9000's in a 245/45. Front strut clearance was fine but the rear was too close due to the tire having a rim protector on the edge so a 5mm spacer was required on the rear wheels, other than that they were fine and had stunning grip.
