Hey everyone, so I am planning to upgrade my turbo to a TD05-18G 8cm from Kinugawa. Currently I have a Cobb DP and Invidia Q300 CBE and was hoping for some suggestions or feedback on my plans for my power modifications.

I plan on going with:
PW TMIC
Cobb EBCS
DW65 fuel pump
ID1000 injectors
Cobb SF intake with heatbox (maybe, depends on my ability to grab one from a buddy of mine)
And of course a good pro-tune

Any suggestions, feedback, what would you do differently? Thanks!

Yeah, decided to keep it. I'm probably going to get it tuned in SoCal by Cobb since I'm in SoCal a lot now. Do you have any tuner suggestions?

great discussion here guys, very good points

you gonna run e85?
i'm leaving the option open to e85 in the future, but I probably won't do that for a long time, i'll probably stick to crap California 91 here.

I spent a long time debating between the VF52 and the 18G, and ultimately decided it wasn't that big of a difference, but went with the 18G just to get a little bit more potential out of it since i'll be upgrading a bunch of things, and I didn't need the turbo to hit so hard soon and it still gets plenty good spool early. Definitely a lot of pros and cons in that debate but it's not that big of a difference in my opinion. I may also end up going to a 20G in the future, but we'll see how I like the 18G first. My goal is a street friendly turbo and the 18G and VF52 are great candidates for what I have in mind.

Not gonna lie, I still debate between whether I should have gone with the VF52 or not but I think i'll be plenty happy with the 18G, plus it was a pretty good deal with the group buy.

yeah, I already got the 18G. It was about 2 weeks after I received it that it dawned on me that I probably should have gone with a 20G, but not much I can do about it now and we'll see what happens. I'll probably find that the 18G is plenty sufficient for a while and i'll enjoy it as long as I can I guess.

No worries with the deviation, it's a good discussion!

Trying to decide if there's anything else I want to order this weekend to take advantage of any black Friday deals...

can't go wrong with either ;)

But I'm thinking I should have gone straight to a 20G lol
Once I get everything installed though, I doubt I'll regret anything haha

will my invidia DP to SPT be fine, or should i put my q300 back on?
That's the exact turbo I bought and it should be the right one. Sounds like we're pretty much on the same track :)
I got the intake with the airbox, the same inlet that you have listed there. I also went ahead and got a fuel pump and the ID1000 injectors as fuel upgrades to help the turbo out and leave the possibility of getting E85 although I'm almost certain I'm going to stick with pump gas.

wudabum, let me know when you do your install :) i've never done a turbo install and would like to check it out, or help if possible :)
I'll be back in norcal in a few weeks and might want to put some parts on, although the turbo itself will probably be a little bit later. I could definitely use your help for some other parts tho!

Yeah, I saw that as a problem, but RSD does that because there's no confirmed fitment from the manufacturer and they do that for a lot of other parts that I know work on our cars. Fitment for the foresters aren't confirmed but I'm working on the assumption that most things that work for the WRX will work for our cars.

Yeah, I'm a bit confused as well after reading the NASIOC thread and then looking at the steamspeed site, but nonetheless, i'm pretty excited to see what you get

This is awesome, this thread turned out really well :) I'm really excited for our builds

I may not be able to get the cobb intake afterall so I might go with the AEM, but how much of a difference would it make if I stayed stock intake?

Would any of you also recommend an aftermarket uppipe or anything like that or is that going to be negligible?

Any other recommendations that might help us with our turbos?

I ended up ordering the AEM intake from Ray.

Rescuer, when do you plan on installing everything?

I'm really happy with this thread, hopefully it helps other members who are considering turbo upgrades as well.

Seems like I have the same problem too. I didn't even notice that I received the wrong turbo until now. I ordered mine back in August though. I contacted steamspeed so we'll see what happens.

I went in to Kamak in Diamond Bar, CA today to have my compression housing changed to the 08+wrx/legacy housing and got a new install kit from them. I ended up upgrading to the billet wheel and the 9 blade turbine wheel as well. Stuck with an 18G when asked if if I wanted to keep it at an 18G or change size. Should be plenty powerful for my needs. I'm working with Cobb down here in southern California to schedule tuning and install of some parts. Hopefully things will start rolling pretty soon in a few weeks!
