So I have been trying to find an alternative to the high beam DRL in my 18 Forester, and after looking closely at the turn signal sockets, it appears my car has 7443 sockets with three leads. Only two of the leads (the high and the ground) seem to be connected to the wiring, with the low lead appearing to be connected to nothing. A multimeter seemed to corroborate this. I was hoping that I could get 7443 switchback bulbs and wire the low leads from the socket into a circuit that turns on with the ignition, but I’m not sure what circuit might be best to use.

Note: It does look like my high beams will work if I pull the DRL resistor, which I’ve heard might not be the case with all 17/18 Foresters.

The way DRL is wired, it's almost impossible to isolate high beam bulbs out of the circuit unless you completely hack up the wiring, so unless you change the turn signal to LED and make sure current draw is low enough, high beam will still light up.
