Hi all,

Apologies if this has been asked before (I did a search!), but can I put 16" steel rims from a 2.0 Forester on my 2008 (SG) 2.5XT? I need a separate set of rims for winter tyres and was thinking of putting them on 16" steelies which I think I can pick up cheaply enough. Is there any particular advantage in staying with 17" through the winter? Also, can anyone recommend a good set of winter tyres? Any opinions on Vredestein Wintrac Extremes? They'll need to be good on snow, ice, and cold wet roads. Thanks!

That's great, thanks! I was a bit worried they'd foul the brakes or something. Isn't 215/60 16 a better match for 125/55 17, or should I be getting a 65 profile in the 16"s?

I thought Subaru only fitted steelies in 15" for non turbo fozzys. My S-Turbo OEM rims are 16" alloys.

Mine's a 2008 car, they came with 17" for the 2.5 turbos and 16" for the 2.0 NA here. (in Ireland). Also, is there any particular disadvantage to being on 16"s instead of 17"s for three months of the year?

16" will fit fine. All foresters aside from the STI and some models with rear drums use the same brakes.

16" tire size for 09+ models is 215/65/16 (they fit great on previous models too, especially for winter tires)

Most 15" won't fit on 03+ foresters.
