So not sure how much flak I'll catch for this, but here goes.

I've been thinking about doing a 13B-REW swap into my 06 Forester 2.5X.
I want to get a second SG forester before I do anything though.

I've always wanted an RX-7, but being 6 feet 6 inches tall, I don't exactly fit.
The idea of a rotary-powered SG forester is just incredibly exciting to me...

Anyone heard of someone else doing this?
I didn't see a build thread in the engine conversion section, but I only browsed up to page 5.

Feedback is welcome.

Yes it has been done to a Subaru, I know a guy who used to own a mid '90s Legacy with a 13B swap. Ran great for a number of years until a accidental car-B-Q. He never really figured out what caused it.

Subaru 13b swap

Honestly, it ran fine but even he admitted it wasn't worth it and it could have been viewed as a step backwards in reliability. In his case he had a rebuilt 13b on hand ready to go and the Legacy was a 300K mile hand me down that had a rod knock from a family member running it out of oil.

First off, I'd like to just say that the likelyhood of this actually happening is very very small.

But....

I did some comparisons...the 13B-REW from the FD3S (93 RX-7)
makes about 6 less torque than the EJ253 that's in the car.

Using the 08 RX-8 for comparison, it's 50lbs lighter than the 06 SG6 2.5X, and has around 158 torques, but near double the horsepower.

My reasoning behind the whole swap is this:
I love the sound of the 13B rotary, buT I'm too tall to fit into anything it came in.

I had toyed with the idea of doing other swaps on the forester...like the obvious EJ253 to EJ257 swap, or maybe even the EJ253 to SR20DET swap....

It would be terrible to drive around, heavy car + no torque=doesnt seem fun
You should know better.

Your torque figure is wrong, I'm not sure where you found it.

The 13b-msp is gutless, the REW is not.

Still, I think this is a terrible idea. A gas guzzler like the rotary in a flying brick with a 14g gas tank means you won't pass very many fuel stations.

Consider swapping seats in an FD, a lot of large gentlemen have successfully shoehorned themselves in to them.

Would it even fit? Cutting the firewall to get it in there would cancel out any foot room you just saved going to a SG.

Please don't forget, it is a heavy motor.

Why not a EZ30D/EZ30R? Bolts up, you can keep the AWD. Plenty of power, relatively reliable. A set of headers and high flow mufflers gives a sweet B6 rumble.

ETA: Apparently 13B is same length as the Impreza 2.2L H4...
