I decided to further "break in" my new forester by winding first out and then cramming second gear....

between the shift was a pretty loud "clunk" noise that frightened me- never heard it before in any other cars that i shifted aggressively on the 1-2..

any ideas??

thanks

That's the rear diff shifting around enough to contact stuff - not good to do. If you install the stiffer bushings it'll stop the bang, but you're still dumping all the stress into the diff all at once - it'll live longer if you don't slam the clutch out like that.

thanks guys- i had a feeling that was the culprit-

I'll be driving it like that at the track, so i don;t really have a choice but to install the bushings ;)
