Hello Everyone,

Vinayak here from New Hampshire, first-time Subaru owner. Recently purchased Forester 09 X Premium 2.5 L with 149 k miles on it.

This will be my daily driver for work getting ready for winter ahead. The car was running fine until recent CEL and bunch of codes showed up and while researching online for same I found this forum. Gathering information as much as I can, will be posting questions for experienced owners.

Thanks!

Hi and welcome!!

Hope you enjoy your car as much as I continue to enjoy mine!!

Make sure the timing belt and idlers were replaced in the last 40k miles.

Tips -

OEM batteries tend to last about 4 years, reliably.
After much experimenting, I have found that engines of our vintage love 5W/30 Castrol GTX.
Don't pay $90 for cabin air filter replacement - it's a very easy 90 second DIY task.
I've had great success with Michelin Defenders T+H 225/55 R17 run at 32 PSI all round.
Thank you Bobby.

Thank you @ForesterCub, Yes according to car fax report timing belt job is done at 120 k mikes at subaru dealer .

Most of fixes I am doing by my self like oil, fluids , bulbs ,breaks and rotors and other small fixes. @least that was the intention when buying this car . Honestly I like the look of older 2003-04 year but could not find good rust free car in my area for the expected price. Rust is something you don't want to deal with .

Doing more reading on transmission codes which I got CEL for P0715 Torque Converter Turbine Speed Sensor Circuit Malfunction , P0732 Incorrect 2nd gear ratio and P0734 Incorrect 4nd gear ratio .
