Hi there. I’ve got a replacement OEM liftgate strut from the local Subie dealer to replace a weak one on my 2009 Forester.

Removing the strut that’s in place leaves the threaded ball stud in the socket (for the liftgate end of the strut, not the body end).

The replacement strut doesn’t have the ball stud, so I need to swap it out.

Any ideas on how to do this? Putting it in the vice and prying hasn’t worked!

@bmg123 take a look at this write up in my son's '03 X Member Journal (link below). For the '03-'08, the new gate lift... stay comes with a new ball, which is "detached". Your '09 could be different. :confused:
