I have owned 6 Subarus so far.

1. 2000 2.5RS coupe
2. 2001 2.5RS coupe with 02 EJ20
3. 2002 WRX wagon
4. 2006 Subaru Legacy- wife car but still owned it
5. 2006 Forester 2.5i
6. 2004 FXT manual- current

I am considering trading my 04FXT for a 09+ FXT. Is there any certain year that I should stay away from or is one year better than another as far as options like HID's, Navigation better wheels etc.

iirc most of the differences would be 09-10 and then 11-13. i think "limited" became "touring" etc...as far as name changes and what options are included. cars101 is great for that kind of info. i personally went with a 2011 as i like the way the inside had some slight changes due to the "touring" package (some nice things like dual zone climate control, heated seats/wipers/mirrors, as well as the standard HIDs which have been my biggest joy coming from older subies!! plus it had black carpet (im still not sure which years do/dont lol). another thing that may bug you if youre picky is that you cant get every color in every interior fabric/color combo. i liked the sage green, but would have preferred black leather....but app that was a bad idea by subaru. so i had to get "platinum" leather.

iirc there was a ringland related recall in the 09s based on certain build dates. but dont have all the facts there.

but based on your info over on the left side there....youre gonna have give up the gear jamming with the XT

I think I am done with gear jamming. I have been driving a straight shift for 21 years. My wife would want to drive the car so I am OK with being a auto.

Thanks for the info and I will check out cars101.

Anybody have anything else to add feel free

its glorious imo. coming from someone who had car #1 and car #3 on your list. i dont mind. call me old....but with the SE PA commutes....its fine with me! theyll be another time and place for the a manual for me....but my baby hauler/relax/cruising ride doesnt need one imo.

Im the same way, call me old too.

Now as far as performance with it being an auto is there any limitations.

I wanting to do coilover, wheels and maybe a good air filter at first anyways. Do people do more and how does it effect the transmission?

theyre known to be pretty tough as its the same 4eat phase II that has been used in previous models. within "normal" reason of course...and with proper fluid change. @nate_fisher has in his own words, "launched the crap outta his over and over and over", lol....and been fine, with pleeeenty of WHP as well.

all in all its gonna be the same 2.5L your currenlty used to...just with a different turbo/tmic/throttle body/intake manifold layout then before. its matches the 08-14 wrxs and 05-09LGTs, so theres almost endless options as far as mods under the hood go. depends on how much you want to push it.

Do people do more and how does it effect the transmission?
i have a journal (click below) with some tid bits. off the top of my head you could check out nates that i mentioned above, @Superacerc, @Rescuer, @Galager , @crazycraig etc......all have journals that will highlight some power mod and susp mod options with the SH XT, while all going different routes....based on needs/end goals/etc.

but there you go OP, most likely your first break will come via motor bang...not the trans!

I am looking more and more at the 09 FXT but while my 04 FXT has a WB radio which I listen to every once in a while and enjoy it.

Does the 09's have the WB radio? If so, does it have to be a certain trim level?

I found a 09FXT near me and is priced at 13K but has 96K miles but I've emails him bc I dont see a good pic of the radio.

I have a 2010 FXT in dark grey if your still interested.
I think his urge for a newer car has passed. I was trying to buy his car and according to my last text from him, he said he fell in love with his SG all over again. But I would urge you to pester him into buying your car so I can buy his.

Ha ha, yes the urge has passed for now but I go week by week on changing my mind about cars which means I am pretty easily persuaded about my Subarus.

I have been looking for you. I did find a nice white one with 128K but asking almost 15K for it. If that is the case I would sell mine for 11K and consider it a good deal.

Yeah man i am bidding on a one owner tomorrow morning at auction. If all goes well i should be able to get it for under 5k. Might break down and get a wrx wagon worst case scenario

I went back and forth on that one too before I bought my FXT. I was looking at a 06 WRX wagon and the insurance was going to go up about $60 a month more and then I knew I wanted a FXT that only went up $1 more than I was paying on my truck.
