I have an '04 Forester, manual trans, with 108,000 mi. Two days ago, it wouldn't idle after the engine started. However, if a depressed the accelerator during start-up to keep the RPMs up for several seconds, the car would idle. Then today, it would not idle at all. I had to depress the accelerator while hitting the brakes to prevent the engine from dying.
I had diagnostics ran, even though there was no check engine light, and there were no codes being thrown.
I've read that the MAF and Idle Control Valves are two possible suspects; however, would there not be a check engine code if one of these were failing?
