So I wanted to originally buy a Yakima or Thule cross bars but the price tag was a bit steep for me. Rather than buying the low end OEM cross bars I decided to build my own. Some of the items I have purchased are: aluminum flat bar at 48” and cut 3 separate brackets to 8 inches each out of it. Then bent them to my liking, I then coated them with plasti dip with 7x coats reason being is so the fairing won’t be up against bare metal also for aesthetic purposes. Drilled 1/4 holes for the mounting screws. I also got six rubber washers to go in between the bolt and fairing. The wind fairing I order to size from TAP plastics. Went with the tinted rather than solid black for aesthetic purposes again. For the cross bars I ordered custom 2x2x58 steel square tubing from online metals. Then found some 2x2 square plastic end caps on Amazon and sealed them in with liquid nail. For the mounting brackets I purchased those through Uboltsdirect with a ID of 2 1/2” and a length of 6 3/4 at 3/8 thick. Got some break line hose from local automotive shop with ID of 3/8 to wrap the bottom half of the U-bolts for vibration purposes. Did prep work on the cross bars and door handles with 100 grit sand paper, then wiped them down with lacquer thinner. Applied the raptor adhesive clear spray 2x Then sprayed 3x coats of raptor bed liner paint on the bars and front door handles. Rear door handles are next when I attack my grill. To be continued....
