  1. ('19+) 2019 - Starlink - Navigation - Map Update?

    Interior and Electronics
Well, Subaru sending out emails is good. I was beginning to wonder if they would ever update the map database. Having a current map database is critically important.
  2. ('19+) 2019 - Starlink - Navigation - Map Update?

    Interior and Electronics
Out of curiosity, how many of you received an email from Subaru announcing the availability of this update?
  3. ('19+) 2019 - Starlink - Navigation - Map Update?

    Interior and Electronics
Today, I received an email from Subaru that a map update was available. I installed it. At this time, since we have no trips planned, I can't say whether the update is good or bad, but it is an update. What may be troubling, the car still shows that it is using a 2017 base map. The update that...
  4. ('19+) 2019 - Starlink - Navigation - Map Update?

    Interior and Electronics
Well, I received a response to my email to Subaru of America. Where the response was: "The map updates are released from the vendor when they are available." For maps that are two years out-of-date, that response is inadequate. The response was sent by: The mailing address for Subaru of America:
  5. ('19+) 2019 - Starlink - Navigation - Map Update?

    Interior and Electronics
My post was unclear in that the "screen" that I was referring to was in the car itself, I did "updated" my maps, soon after buying the car, using the "Subaru Map Update Delivery Portal". However, the map available for download appears to be circa 2017, not 2019.
  6. ('19+) 2019 - Starlink - Navigation - Map Update?

    Interior and Electronics
As an additional thought concerning how to update the maps to the in-dash navigation. Under "home" > "settings" > "map update" there is the following text: Regretfully, the screen does not display a URL for the website listed. So does anyone know what website the quote above refers too? Has...
  7. ('19+) 2019 - Starlink - Navigation - Map Update?

    Interior and Electronics
Typical gobbledygook response. There are too many "middlemen" that insulate one product vendor from another in terms of who is responsible. A delay of a few months is reasonable. But it appears that the maps accessible to Subaru are now 2 years out-of-date. That is unreasonable. Subaru should...
  8. ('19+) 2019 - Starlink - Navigation - Map Update?

    Interior and Electronics
Good question. I can get updates to the Garmin Nuvi 650, which is a stand alone unit that attaches to the inside of the windshield. If Garmin has the data, then TomTom should also. Did Subaru respond? Who did you contact at Subaru?
  9. ('19+) 2019 - Starlink - Navigation - Map Update?

    Interior and Electronics
We recently took a long road trip. The Subaru Forester (2019) in-dash tom-tom navigation was disappointing. It appears that the base map, is an (obsolete) 2017 edition since recently built roads do not seem to show-up. Our Garmin Nuvi 650, which we also brought along, was more up-to-date...
  10. ('19+) Starlink - Navigation - Import Custom POI?

    Interior and Electronics
Yes. I have updated the maps using the USB port. However, what I am trying to do is to load a custom POI file. There does not appear to be a way to do this with the in-dash navigation. Do you know how a custom POI file can be loaded, assuming that it is even possible?
  11. ('19+) Starlink - Navigation - Import Custom POI?

    Interior and Electronics
Does anyone know if there is an SD card associated with the in_dash navigation unit? I have received a couple of response about using an SD card. However, I think they are still (mistakenly) confusing a stand-alone GPS unit with an in-dash unit.
  12. ('19+) This is just CREEPY!

    Driver-Assist Technology and EyeSight
Sirius receives its signal from satellites. But that does not mean that the radios don't have a capability of talking to cell towers. Page 4 of the 2019 Starlink "Safety and Security" pamphlet states: "Subaru Starlink uses the nationwide 4G LTE cellular network (where available)." Our 2015...
  13. ('19+) Interesting Aspects of Automatic Technology

    Driver-Assist Technology and EyeSight
We live in a rural area, were traffic lights are few. Anyway, I usually tap the breaks when traffic slows down to deactivate the cruise control. The reason I didn't, this time, car testing. Its a new car and I wanted to see what would happen.
  14. ('19+) Interesting Aspects of Automatic Technology

    Driver-Assist Technology and EyeSight
Automatic technology, such as adaptive cruise control can raise some interesting effects, provided that no serious consequence results. Today, the Subaru was slowing our car down since the car immediately ahead of us was slowing down for a red light. Suddenly, the car ahead changed lanes and the...
  15. ('19+) This is just CREEPY!

    Driver-Assist Technology and EyeSight
Since this topic came up. By extension, does Subaru have an air plane like "black box" that records driving and location? PS: We had an XM radio in our prior Subaru and I wondered how the radio "talked" to home. Given today's technology, I couldn't believe that this would have been overlooked...
  16. ('19+) Starlink - Navigation - Import Custom POI?

    Interior and Electronics
There appears to be a big divide between in-dash GPS units and external GPS units that attach to a vehicle's front windshield or sit on the dash. We have a Garmin Nuvi 650 GPS which attaches to the front windshield. External GPS units have the capability to install, from a computer, POI files...
  17. ('19+) Starlink - Navigation - Import Custom POI?

    Interior and Electronics
We used a Garmin Nuvi 650 on our old 2015 Forester as it did not have in-dash navigation. Our new 2019 Forester has in-dash navigation, that is based on TomTom. That makes our Garmin unit, more or less, obsolete. The Garmin, as a free-standing GPS unit, had the capability to load custom POIs...

Yes they were platted in gold. Should have been just $500.
  19. RIP 1st Foz - Insurance Claim from a total loss - advice saught

    Member Mishaps
Recently we lost our 2015 Subaru to an uninsured motorist who also had her driver's license revoked. Our car had just reached 80,000 miles. Getting a professional appraisal would be a very good idea. The initial appraisal to fix our car was $8,000. I was sceptical of that. The insurance...
  20. ('19+) 2019 - Rear power lift gate won't open (merged thread) - SOLVED!

    Interior and Electronics
A twist to this saga. The rear power gate would not open to our 2019 Forester. We played around with it for a while, but nothing worked. We suspend our attempts to get the rear power gate to work since my wife had to go shopping. In the meantime, I searched this forum to get clues. When she got...
