  1. Stretching the legs

    Offroad Fozzies
I've done similar things in a stock 2004 x with no lift. Good tires are key though. I had General Grabber AT2's. There are several options though. Also, go slow, check angles, and don't bottom out. If you pick your lines well, you'll be fine.
  2. ('14-'18) Strangest Issue after 3 weeks at the body shop - Updated!

    Problems, Maintenance, and Warranty
I don't think they used it as an errand car. This may be a case of bad timing, where something went wrong on your car while in the body shop's possession. That doesn't mean they did anything to cause it. OTOH, what are the possible things they could have done? Disconnect the battery? Jump start...
  3. ('06-'08) Cheap struts on eBay

    Suspension and Handling
$170 isn't that great a deal. Your springs probably don't need to be replaced, and struts/tophats from a name brand should be about the same price. It looks like it would be about $90 a wheel on rock auto. Your local parts store would probably be pretty close to that too.
  4. ('03-'05) Head Gasket Questions

    EJ25 - 2.5L Non-Turbo (1998-2010)
FWIW, my HG's were "weeping" when I bought the car with 90k miles on it. I got around to changing the HG's at 150k miles. At that point they were weeping a little more than I liked, but other than a drop of oil on the floor every once in a while, was causing no other symptoms. I guess what I'm...
  5. ('03-'05) Head Gasket Questions

    EJ25 - 2.5L Non-Turbo (1998-2010)
It sounds like your oil cooler oring is leaking. On the next oil change, they need to remove the part the filter screws onto and replace the oring on it. It's a simple job, but requires a really big socket.
  6. ('03-'05) Should my front wheels spin freely with Subaru symmetrical awd?

    Transmission and Driveline
The front wheels have an open differential. What you are describing sounds perfectly normal. Set the parking brake and see if the car still tries to move when taking off. If it does, the front is okay.
  7. ('06-'08) JDM Business Card Holder Help!

    Interior and Electronics
How "factory correct" are you trying to get this? If you just want to get the holder installed and looking as factory as possible, then I suggest you modify a USDM mount. If you're trying to convert your car to a JDM car, then you need to source the mount. There are a few importers that can...

Welcome from down the road. Whereabouts in CO are you?
  9. ('98-'00) Where Exactly is the Keyless Entry Module?

    Interior and Electronics
I've removed 2 of these, and both were mounted to a bracket that held them in a vertical position, with the plugs facing straight down.
  10. ('03-'05) Cylinder misfire after ignition coil replacement - Updated!

    EJ25 - 2.5L Non-Turbo (1998-2010)
The oil is your problem. Change the plug wires, the rest of the plugs, and your valve cover gaskets and you'll be okay. I have found that the FelPro gaskets are quite good, at a reasonable price. I also don't generally bother with the half-moon cam cap things unless they fall out when removing...
  11. ('14-'18) What Mileage To Expect Brake Pad/Rotor Service?

    Brakes
I'm doing a brake job on a 2014 with 40k on it, and both front and rear are really worn out. I'm not sure what they changed to make the rears wear out so fast, but they do. Seems like most people need to do both at the same time, and some even have the rears wearing out before the fronts. I...
  12. ('06-'08) Crank bolt Removal Automatic SG9

    EJ25 - 2.5L Turbocharged (2004-2013)
I personally use the "bump the starter" method, but I put a piece of wood behind the a/c condenser for a little added piece of mind. for tightening it, I found this tool to hold the crank pulley quite well.
  13. Help Me Choose a New Car

    The Relatives
It's a 2011 X5 X-Drive 3.5i with 55k miles on it. We paid $23k plus TTT. When new, it was >$60k! It's got a couple of issues, but seems to be a pretty clean car. It's a FL car that just arrived in CO last winter, so no rust. The center console is a bit beat up and one of the muffler hangers is...

  15. Help Me Choose a New Car

    The Relatives
To address the maintenance costs, I do all my own maintenance. I'm a professional technician, and play with equipment that is much more complicated than even today's cars. Parts for the GLK are actually rather reasonable. I guess buying Subaru parts for all these years has gotten me used to...
