The oil pressure light is basically the "you need a new engine" light. If that light turns on, your engine bearings are already dead.

Yeah, that sounds like something is up with fuel pressure. Fuel pressure regulator or fuel pump relay perhaps?

13.5 hours does sound a little long, especially if you're a professional Subaru tech, but replacing the shortblock might take a little longer because of the cleaning and torquing procedures.

Wait, how did you wire up the VSS? I was able to wire up the NSS and reverse switch, but I never figured out how to work the VSS. Did you keep the TCU?

That was part of the purpose of having the ATF...

That was part of the purpose of having the ATF cooler built into the radiator, IIRC.

Has 230K miles? I'd just dump it, unless you can install that engine for cheap. That Forester isn't worth much since it's a '98 with 230K miles, but it's worth more in the winter months.

Bye bye head gasket. Anywhere from $1750-2000 depending on where you live. Might as well do the timing belt job while you're in there, if you haven't already.

The stock intake manifold is plenty for the stock motor. You'd be wasting time and effort getting that to work on an EJ251.
