|dieselbass||Mobil 1 here. 0w20. Had oil analyzed by Cat and no issues even with gravel roads we drive on (thank you Subaru for a tight induction system). About to do another change and will draw sample for this as well. Also coming up on 15,000 mile service and will sample any boxes that are scheduled. Pretty happy with how these cars are set up for PM work.|

|runerx||I have noticed that My N/A 03 is great on consumption until 4K Mi. and then I have to watch it carefully. Last change I didn't watch closely enough and it was low when I changed it at 5600 mi. I ran Full synth this time and will watch to see if that makes any difference. I also realized that there is no copper gasket on the plug I'm assuming there should be one?|

|nasoj007||The almost 500k kms my dad put on his 4cyl '05 Sebring would testify that synthetic is a good idea... it was still the quietest 4 cyl Dodge I have ever heard even when he finally traded it in. The biggest difference I've noticed is cold weather starts, if he put in dino when you fired that sucker up it sounded like a dwarf was hitting the side of the block with a can filled with bolts, put in synthetic and the 'dodge' knock quieted down to a valve tick level.|

Hot or cold temperatures don't really matter, but if you are stuck in stop and go driving like a lot of Californians, then you are driving severe duty. You could benefit from synthetic oil.

This was extracted from your link... Thank you for confirming my personal direct experience is not anecdotal..... and I wasn't equating my experience to anecdotal evidence either. Was just saying I switched to synthetic and this was what happened personally to my situation.

I switched to Castrol Syntec (full synthetic 5W30) atabout 9K miles. I always run a quality (K&N) filter and change every 4K miles (easier to figure than 3750 per warranty reccomendations). I have no leaks and no consumption at 65,000+ miles on my '09 XT.

my 11 ranger and my wife's 13 fxt both require synthietic anyway, plus, like you said, the stuff can be had cheap
I think walmart had it for under $30 for a 5l last time I bought some

I've been running Mobil 1 on my 2009 for several years now and at 60K I have almost no burn off and the engine runs like a top at 5000 mile changes. You can get the stuff at Costco for a super deal several times a year so that defeats the cost problem.

Agreed, I have always used Syn in my 09FXT, Castrol, from the first change. In summer it gets 10/40 and winter 5/30 as I am in FLA. I am amazed by some of the comments about oil usage/burn off with the FOZ. I have not experienced this at all with 38K on it.
I just knocked wood to be safe.

On turbo cars, the turbo charger shares an oil supply with the engine, so if the engine oil gets a bit thick or dirty or [insert your oil horror here], the turbo charger will be the thing that suffers. It's a bad idea to starve or feed dirty oil to a sleeve-bearing device spinning at 100k rpm. Synthetic oil is much less prone to turning into slime and never loses low-temperature viscosity additives ('cause it doesn't need them!).

I don't run synthetic in my 2000 RS, but my FXT only gets synthetic.

I gotta chime in.
As a former drag racer, including turbo applications...
You do not want to use conventional oil in an FI setup. Synthetic is SO much less prone to burning off, coking, and turning into slime. Makes me cringe thinking about people using non-syn in hot climates on turbo applications.
