Default Glass Masters Epic Fail

I went to get a new windshield today.

EPIC FAIL

Took 3 hours from my appointment time. The tech working on it was a giant douche. If my husband hadn't been standing there, it would have been worse than it is. He put the weather stripping in backwards, which he didn't notice, but my husband did. Instead of pulling it out and redoing everything, he just tried to shove it back in around the glass. The shield is askew, I'm worried its going to leak. He dropped a tool on my hood. He took a CHUNK out of my fender at the corner. My a pillars are scratched all the hell. Thing is, they couldn't redo the whole thing while the black goo stuff was wet or else it would have made a big mess. The girl who was there begged me to come back on Wed when the managers were back (they're all on vacation) because she couldn't do anything. The tech was just blowing us and her off. He didn't care.

When I go back, they are giving me all my money back, a new windshield put in CORRECTLY, and possibly more to fix the chunk out of my fender.

I am so mad. I haven't seen work this bad in a long long time.

Well either they'll fix it, or it will get disputed with the credit card company who is also the insurance company who is also USAA. I doubt they will like paying for this shoddy work out of their insurance money either.

USAA rocks as an insurance company. Wish I could get it. My cousin has it, he's a retired vet and has ALL of his accounts with them. I got to go have my windshield replaced soon because it's leaking from the top seal in two places. Hopefully I don't get screwed with.

Gaaah. That's awful and I'm sorry you and your car had to deal with such a turkey.

What company was this guy with?

I've also had to have a windshield replaced (back in late '06) and it seems to me that the glass on these Subaru Foresters is kinda thin....

Glass Masters. They're a national company.

USAA basically just paid me and I found the company. But if these guys don't fix this crap the right way, USAA will be getting a call that they damaged my car.

Man that lady at the glass place was a giant *****. she went and asked the tech about my car and he screamed ‘they’re lying’. Um ya, because my weather stripping is just coming off of its own free will.

She wasn’t happy with the job, but she refused to give me my money back OR let me take it to my own body guy. They will only fix it if a body guy they use is allowed to fix it first and if I’m not happy with it, then I can take it to someone. There is legal language on the back of the bill/estimate thing that states they have a 'right' to do this, so basically I have no choice on that one.

She also has to “check with Sonia’ about them using my weather stripping and then charging me for it. I told her my husband was standing IN THEIR SHOP and she said IN THE BACK? And I said yes. She didn’t seem to like that. Apparently they don’t want people to know when they’re overcharging or screwing something up. She kept saying the same thing the other girl did "We stand behind our work."

I finally told her, "I REALLY wish you guys would stop repeating that stupid line when I am standing her with a 10 point list of stuff this tech ****ed up. He damaged my car and let me drive up with an unsafe windshield. If I really wanted to be a hardass i would call my insurance and credit card company. You have one chance to fix this, and if you don't, I won't be even remotely nice anymore."
So I'm going back tomorrow at 4:30. I had "icey" face on this time. Tomorrow if its not right, I will be unglued.

You should find out who their body shop is before you let them work on your car. You do have the option of getting your car repaired through USAA, then USAA would have the right to collect from Glass Masters for the damage that they caused. You were not at fault, and although I am unfamiliar with you state's insurance laws, I am willing to bet that a repair would not affect your premiums. You would have to pay your deductible up front, but it should be recovered from the glass shop. It is a bit less direct, but it allows you to choose the repair shop if you don't like the one that they choose. Give USAA a call and see what they think, you can always withdraw a claim with them if the glass shop comes through for you.

OH I'm going to talk to the guy first and find out how he plans to fix it. She said he comes to their shop. He's not going to touch it without me there. Thing is, if the guy effs up at all, I have my CUSTOM car guy and don't think I won't make them pay. They'll have to pay twice as much if they make it worse. I might sic my lawyer friend on them first even (its something I'm considering). I'm not sure I'd have to pay my deductible again because I was paying them WITH insurance money from the original hail damage. I'm going to talk to my lawyer friend and USAA after I go there tomorrow.

Get the lawyer to send them a nice letter. I'm pretty sure they'll change their tune rather quickly.

The other manager was there today and said the other lady shouldn't have scheduled it for today because they didn't have time to do it between 430 and 6 pm. They would have to have my car for at least 3 hours to fix the ding and the windshield. Sigh. So now its been put of till at least next week. I have to call her and let her know when I can drop it off.

That sinks. They should come to you and do the work.

Any time I've had glass work done, either repair or replacement, I've gone with the company that USAA suggested, figuring that they would have an established track record and a relationship with USAA that involved less hassle for me. (And that I'd probably have better leverage if they screwed up.) But I've never had a problem.

Did USAA recommend these turkeys to you, or are they totally independent?
