Car Caught on Fire :(

First post. Just got an 06 Fozz about a month ago and took it to the shop to get the transmission oil changed, differential oil changed, spark plugs and valve cover gasket replaced. Drove it for about 10 minutes Saturday night and the car sputtered out at a stop light and then the engine went up in smoke and flames. I put it out with an extinguisher from the gas station next to me but it looks like its too far gone. Wednesday now and AAA said they'll get back to me to determine whether or not I'll get the same car with a new engine or if they'll cut me a check. Before, during and after pics.

You should have let it burn completely.

Can you tell about where the fire originated? That sucks! I wonder if the shop spilled a bunch of oil on the header or catalytic converter.

Sorry about that. New/used car.. fire... not good.
What about the shop that worked on it?
You said you drove for 10 minutes.. was this after picking up the car from the shop?

The shop

There is a good possibility that the shop that changed all the lubricants was at fault. Good chance the shop failed to replace all the caps and covers, the engine got hot creating vapors and a spark ignited it. A good percentage of engine fires are due to improper maintenance. Notice that the fire started when the car was at a stop light.

Check with your insurance..there may be no deductable. I would go after the shop owner for the deductable. You may not get it but its worth trying.

Be careful what you wish for.

AAA called and they said they need to send an adjuster from CO to here in NV to look at it and take pictures. They said without even looking at it that they're probably gonna end up totaling it and for our $100 deductible we'll get a check for what its worth (like $7000). I paid $7200 for it a month ago and I won't be able to find another one like it. Closest is an 08 XT with 64k on it but its a salvage title and they want $10500.

If anyone on the west coast is selling a 04-08 Fozz with less than 125k that would be awesome hahah

5MT or Autotragic? FXT 4EATs aren't that hard to find, but 5MTs in good shape are.

N/M, saw your info said Auto. Yeah, not likely to find another one for $7K though.

I don't have a preference. Just want another Fozz. Its gonna suck trying to find one though. I got a good deal on mine. Especially for Tahoe. Most are beat and salvaged.

Take the $7 grand and put it down on a new one! Depending on the model Forester you get, the payments shouldn't be that much.

Never liked buying used vehicles, always seemed to give me problems.

Now in my old age, instead of shelling out a wad of cash, it is more beneficial for me to lease.

Good luck.

You always have to fight with insurance company. They will always try to pay low. Its like dealer when you trade in they give you trade in price. You should fight for retail price.
They supposed to pay replacement cost including tax, title and registration regardless of how much you pay for it. You also just spend money doing maintenance you should be able to negotiate some of that cost back.
