For the price I'd get the Helix catted downpipe. The Cobb is nice, but it is expensive. I have a Cobb catted DP, but I bought it used for $300. If I didn't find that deal I would have a Helx on my car.
Every now and then when I wish I had more power, I swap cars with my wife and drive the X. After a few trips in that car, it makes me really appreciate the VF39 and I'm satisfied with it again. I've driven a few stage 2 FXTs, and they feel like my VF39 until you get to 5k RPMs. Thats when my setup is in the meat of it's power, where as the TD04 starts fading. That's comparing stage 2 to a VF39 protune though. Now if I could not get a protune, I probably would rather be stage 2 with the TD04, then the Cobb VF39 map.

Hey,
Yes, the cobb stage I and II OTS maps default the DAM to 0.75 which reads as 0.8. The VF39 OTS Map defaults to 0.5 From what I have read cobb was very careful ( more so than usual ) when making the vf39 maps for the FXT's. I would update to the latest firmware (1.2.8) and see what happens - Having a low DAM is not a bad thing at all - it will start with a safe ignition advance situation and slowly move to more aggressive IF the ECU is happy (no knock). You could try the vishnu ecu learning trick. If that doesn't pop the DAM up quickly you either have a lot of knock or there is a problem with the parameter updating properly.

See these screen shots for more info.
EDIT Also For the OTS vf39 2005 auto map the Boost Control Disable high for the DAM is set to 0.65. What is your boost? If you are running more than wastegate pressure I would guess that there is a problem with the parameter. Let me know we (well me and the smarter people on the board) will figure it out! Boost Control Disable (DAM) - Table description – a single value that represents the dynamic advance multiplier (DAM) below which the boost control system is disabled. Under these conditions the vehicle will run boost levels consistent with wastegate spring pressure.

I have the newest firmware btw..I have a Mac so I can't download the newest ProTuner Software. If I did, I could just use that to datalog.
Did you put the vf39 on your car yet? Did you happen to see if "Timing Retard at Shift Points" parameter was added to the software? Not sure if it would be under a Timing Category, Auto Trans. category, or like a Miscellaneous category. |

12 - 14 PSI is pretty close to map target boost at less then WOT.
The VF39 has not gone on yet I decided at the last hour to pickup some pnp'd sti headsers - but it should go on in the next month or so. What part of Jersey are you from - we could maybe meet up and see if I can get some logs with my laptop. I didn't see any parameters that had to do with shift points on my version of the race tuner - but I also have not yet had a chance to connect my laptop to my ecu. So, I am praying that the extra options might show up after I have connected to my ecu?? My only thought is that we could make the knock correction more aggressive so that the ecu could correct it between shifts - but I don't know enough to alter maps and feel comfortable about it - YET! Maybe you could contact one of the internet tuner guys with your problems - they might be able to fix it for less than the cost of a pro tune. Jesse PS maybe we should start a new thread? Or maybe the mods could split this.

thanks for the info...
I have a protune map already, but wasn't able to fix that parameter issue then...think I'm gonna flash it back though, I think my car will like it better than the OTS map. I know they added that parameter to the Legacy GT 5eats with this update, figured we would have gotten it too...My parents have an PC I could download the Street Tuner software too, but I wouldn't be able to hook it up to my car obviously... I've been looking around for a cheap crappy laptop to buy just to do datalogging. I would never mess/edit any kind of tune, as I'm a tuning noob and know when I'm over my head. What kind of downpipe do you have on your car right now, yours doesn't rub against the pan for the transmission like mine does? Wonder if thats what my knock sensor was hearing. I thought about putting some heat wrap around the DP in just that one spot so soften up any banging. I live off exit 100 off the Garden State Parkway..Asbury Park/Belmar area |

I downloaded the RaceTuner or whatever its called on my parents PC...Didn't see what I was looking for..I remember there being a lot more parameters when I was getting protuned..maybe there is more available when your doing live tuning..who knows..
Anyway I put my protune map back on and it defualts to 1.0 DAM on resets..so I'm just gonna see if it stays there or sees knock and drops...I think my car just doesn't like the Off The Shelf Map for the VF39. |

So i picked up my AccessPort yesterday and flashed Stage 1 93 octane on my 07 Forester XT Sports 4EAT. I ran a few standing starts yesterday and was pleased with the results.
HOWEVER... less than 24 hours of Stage 1 and i already got the same CEL that has been reported in this thread twice. The CEL is: P0244 and occurred as i was driving on I-95. I was in "D" and coasted down to pass through the EZ Pass lane of a tollbooth. I mashed on the accelerator after passing through the tollbooth and hit the CEL. It was sad/funny because i immediately knew what had happened and figured i had gotten the same CEL. This is the third reported occurrence (that i can remember at least) of this specific problem with the 4EATs on Stage 1 that i've seen on here. I'm a little concerned, but it only seemed to happen at that weird shift point that you get with 4EAT to begin with, where the tranny is downshifting as you're coasting and then you mash on the accelerator. I noticed a weird hesitance at that same juncture while driving the stock car, so i'm wondering if the Cobb map doesn't account for it. On Tuesday i go to Stage 2 93 octane so i'll test the car out at that same shift point to see if the same problem arises. Hopefully this isn't terrible for the turbo, tranny, or the rest of the car. In any case i'm a little disappointed with Cobb. Has anyone contacted them about this other than Cobb's own forum? I plan on calling them next week.
